I can engage, support and hold my students accountable for developing media literacy skills. This means that:
I can extend students’ critical thinking and reading skills to include media texts by effectively teaching them visual literacy through inquiry-based analysis.
I can empower students to be critical consumers of media messages by teaching them the skills to access, analyze and evaluate information found on the internet, television, magazines and other media sources.
I can empower students to become responsible citizens and persons with agency by effectively leading them to understand the power and pervasiveness of media influences on attitudes and behaviors, thereby helping them to take responsibility for making their own choices.
I can extend students’ compositional skill set to include the creation of media messages through effective instruction and access to 21st century tools
